As apposed to being on the beach...the BEF got further inland than Dunkirk, then they were pushed back to Dunkirk. For instance the the 51st Infantry Division was left behind at Saint-Valéry-en-Caux and later surrendered to the Germans, that was 20 miles West of Dieppe.

Early war there is obviously lots going on but we're a bit limited by the lack of Poles, Finns, French etc. I'd love to do a winter war game but we're short on Finns, Russians and winter so could struggle.

I think top of my list still has to be Crete as its got lots going for it and wouldn't require too many people to invest in new kit as there is the ubiquitious partisan option. Plus it gives me an excuse to get some earlier war FJ kit.

As I mentioned in the original thread Africa would be great but difficult to do, especially pre 42. Probably better to opt for a later date and let the yanks join in.

France would be a good idea, a Dunkirkesk scenario would be excellent if there was a site that suited it. I don't necessarily mean the town/beach but the area in front where the rearguard fought like speirs suggested.
Other possible options could be the Brit counter attack at Arras or the intial advance into Belgium by the allied forces to meet the German attack. That would be quite well suited as there would a mixture of attacking & defending by both sides and it mostly involved infantry actions- being a diversionary attack with the majority of the German armour attacking through the Ardennes.

Norway would be a little tricky as the British troops mostly fought further north where is was still quite snowy which is somewhat problematic in this country. Maybe if we had a game in scotland we could overcome this? Then we could test out winter gear properly.

Any eastern front game also gets my vote as you'd probably guess but early war could be difficult. We're still a bit short on Russian players and AFAIK I'm the only one with an early war uniform (ie pre-43). Thats why I was suggesting Leningrad for an eastern front game. The long term seige meant the defenders were forced to use whatever they could get hold of to keep warm and carry on fighting. So the kit restrictions could be a bit more relaxed to encourage people to take part, but slightly more restictive than Bryansk as they weren't partisans. A mixture of Russian, civilian and German kit (not uniforms) would be acceptable. I have some thoughts on kit guides for this but won't go into it now.

As you suggested Guy commando raids are another option. The small scale raids carried out early on would make ideal scenarios for airsoft games as the numbers involved would actually be realistic. Plus it would give the Germans the option of doing a little role playing as garrison troops which I like.

Beyond that you're looking at hyperthetical scenarios like Operation Sealion, which was going to be one of my suggestions too. The LDV would be a nice easy kit to get for those who don't have Brit or German.
A not-so-phoney war scenario like the allies attacking Germany from the Maginot line to come to Polands aid (ie what they should have done).
Operation Hercules, the invasion of Malta. Although that could be too similar to a Crete game.

Not everyone on the allied side needs to be home guard. There's room for regular army as well.

What was the operation called during the battle of Britain when the 1st airborne dropped onto the French coast to destroy some German radio pathfinding equipment in bunkers for the German bombers and then exfiltrated via boat that could be a good scenario.

Operation Biting

First successful airborne para operation of the war. Eben Emael was done with gliders..

I think the paras lost two men, killed dozens of germans and captured the radar and the scientist manning it!

Sides are a bit limited though

Isn't this a chance to mix a bit of fantasy with reality in what if scenarios?

It is airsoft after all, not historical renactment so what if....

German raiders crossed the Channel shortly after Dunkirk to probe the British defences - means those with Home Guard can play that part and call in the local army? Could even use Falshies?

British commandos had a crack at taking back one of the smaller channel islands with some help from the locals?

The Brits and Germans have a scrap over one of the old Napoleonic rock forts that means all the fighting is inside as there is no 'outside', just water?

Some brits get left behind after Dunkirk but manage to get home with a little help...or do they? (bit to E&E really).

I quite fancy the Germans actually invading Britain - doesn't need to be full blown Sealion, just small raids. I know you sort of did this at Churchills but I missed it

If I remember correctly they forgot to teach all the commandos how to swim and had to leave a couple behind with a fistful of local currency and best wishes.

Yep it was an utter disaster but valuable lessons were learned and 'morale' wise the papers could say we'd been raiding Nazi territory which technically had more of a positive impact than any military goals.

That was on e of the main reasons Churchill championed commandos.

He knew D-day was a long way away and we had to be 'seen' to be fighting not just building and rationing.

I have mentioned this before but a game themed on the film "Went the day well" with the possibility for disguised Germans, paratroops, civillans. It is set in May 1942 in an English village so could include early Americans as well. I started to draw up basics of this game as it was filmed only a couple of miles from X-site where I have played.

Operation Torch would also give Americans and Brits a chance to face off against the French.... I mean Germans. The landscape is not so much desert as hilly and green along the coasts so would not look that out of place playing in the UK.

The Crete invasion I think would also make for a good scenario with both Germans and Brits/ANZACS in desperate defensive positions.

Er ..did you not come to the Eagle has Landed in March ??? Jack Higgins's re write of Went the Day Well ? Oh well I was there and it was a good giggle ! I captured Churcill , and made it back to my submarine !

Anyway , Sea Lion is looking a possiblilty. Not sure we need a beach landing (been there seen that again) , but some creative rolepelay with civvies might make it a better than average day ooot.

Hi, not an early war idea as such but Der Alts idea of re playing civies is something I'd be well up for. Basically a fair amount of Germans, lots of civies and one or two SOE. My main pull is the idea that civies can not carry weapons that can be seen without being engaged by the German leading to a lot of pistols and hiding rifles, etc.

Something like out of Black Book might be a suitable scenario or smuggling airmen out of France and Belgium. Secret Army like (or Allo Allo if you must)

Love the Sealion idea, wouldn't mind doing Brit civilian...wearing a flat cap and chewing some straw.
